As U.S. trade with foreign countries continues to increase, the efficient transportation of imported and exported goods moving throughout the Nation and North America is a critical issue.  The Dallas area is taking great strides to help protect and enhance historic trade routes that currently flow through the area, while also revitalizing the southern and eastern sectors of Dallas County with the International Inland Port of Dallas (IIPOD) project [previously referred to as Dallas NAFTA Trade Corridor project], an innovative, economic development and transportation initiative.

This project consists of five public policy components, including development of an Agile Port System (also referred to as an inland port), a tax incentive collabrative, a commerical vehicle pre-clearance and security facility, and a cargo airport.
Each of these components will yield substantial results, especially job creation, for the region and the State of Texas for many years to come.
